Beci Orpin: Mushroom Canisters.

I am a big fan of Beci Orpin's work, so when I saw these mushrooms canisters on her blog recently, I just squealed a little. I don't even know why I would need these, but I just want them..

They were made for this new store in Fitzroy, which looks so colourful and fun. Will have to visit on my next Melbourne trip.

Instagram faves: Food

I am a bit addicted to Instagram. The thing I love about it the most is being able to see what other people are doing and seeing, what they are finding on their day-to-day travels and the little things that fascinate them. It's fun following people from near and far. I also just love beauty in every day random things.

I decided I will post on a few different themes from my Instagram faves, the first is food. People love to share their daily treats or meals, yes it's become a bit of a trend.. but who doesn't love food!

A sky full of kindness.

I am pretty lucky to have been given this beautiful book, by one of my favourite artists Rob Ryan, as a gift from my lovely brother & sister in-law. It seems to be one of those perfect matches for a time in my life. The book is based on '2 birds on a epic adventure as they become parents for the first time'.

A sky full of kindness, is just as beautifully written as it is created, with each page paper cut in true Rob Ryan Style. One of my favourite part's is how proud the father-to-be is:

'The Father-to-be turned upon the window ledge to face the city (if not the entire world) that lay spread out beneath him. Swelled with pride he burst into song - louder than he had ever sung before. He could not tell you where the words came from, he certainly didn't plan them in his head, they rose directly from his heart up to his beak and from there they travelled out across the whole town and beyond..'

A bedtime story for every age, so maybe once my little bird arrives I can one day read this to her too. x

Moonrise Kingdom.

This is one movie I can't wait to see. 'Moonrise Kingdom' by one of my favourite director's Wes Anderson. I love how his movies are shot, stylised but character driven, with so much detail. I love the nostalgia, the colours, the wide angle shots, the music and the quirky natures of his films. I am sure this one is going to be a winner..
p.s watch in full screen.

New goals.

I hate rushing to make new year goals, so I never make it a priority to do it before or directly on New Years day. I like to ease a bit into the year, unwind and then really think about what I want for the year.
So here are some of my goals. I think it's a pretty do-able list..

1. Bake more.
How yum does this Chocolate Lavender Pie look? I honestly don't put aside much time to nest. I want to get better at baking home cooked recipes.

2. Sew more for the home.
I have a patchwork quilt half made from last year (sigh). I need to finish it this year and want to make a special baby quilt too, among other things included in this cute 'Baby on the Way' E-course. Just need to do it..

3. Blog often.
Well I am off to a good start! I just know that I get excited and ambitious about new projects, and then when time passes the busy life takes over. I plan to blog weekly here at the very least though more than that would be dandy. I also want to post more resources on Finders Keepers (something I strangely enjoy doing), which has been on the list for the last year or so, and keep Follow updated with lots goodies. Productivity.. Heck yes.

4. Get a good camera.
We had a digital camera a few years ago, and then it broke, iPhone camera photo taking became the norm and well we never replaced it. I really enjoyed Photography in high school, and spend alot of time developing film in the darkroom and taking my Mum's original old school SLR for a spin. What happened?
So evidently, now I do want a digital SLR. It's an investment which I never quite have the money for, so this year with baby on the way it's even more important to capture our memories.

Lauren Carney.

Some lovely artworks by Brisbane Artist sweetheart Lauren Carney. Top artwork 'There were two' and bottom artwork ‘We were intertwined’.

Little Things.

It's true. Yep I've never been the clucky type. In fact I went through a stage where I never thought I would want kids! Well that has all changed, for the first time I have been looking at Children's stores, blogs and getting excited about cute little things that I adored in my own childhood. It really is a whole new world to me.
We're not really prepared for this baby, our rented space is really set up for a creative couple. With a move not on the cards for a while, we're going to have to make-do with what we have and do a bit of shuffling around.
I have started a new collection of inspiration for our baby's new space. It's currently on one of my Pinterest boards Little Things. I would love, love, love to have some adorable printed wallpaper. Ferm Living do my favourite, but that's not going to happen any time soon. Instead I am going to get crafty and resourceful and try and make something pretty out of what I can. We don't have any money saved for the little one, as it all went into opening our store in August (whoops) so it's going to be baby on a budget. I guess that in itself is a challenge and a project I can set myself for 2012!

New year, new blog

Well here I am, post one! I have been thinking about starting my own personal blog for a while, but have always been a bit hesitant about talking about myself and my life.
I have been blogging for Finders Keepers for years, but it's always been easy when it's not about you!
One of my goals for 2012 was to have more 'me time', with baby T on the way, I know it's going to be hard to juggle. I have always spent so much time working for hard for everyone else, on Finders Keepers and now on Follow, that I rarely get time to be creative myself or reflect on the things I love. I am hoping I will find more time to do that this year.
2011 was a very crazy year (amazing though!), especially the second half so I feel like I am still catching up on so much I didn't even get to. I don't regret a thing! but hoping for a new pace in 2012.
With baby T (our nickname for baby Thornton) due in May, my life is about to dramatically change as we become a family for the first time. I know now more than ever is time to start to cherish the special moments in life.
